M3U8 to MP4
Paste an m3u8 link and convert the HLS playlist into one MP4 video — free, no upload, no install. The m3u8 format to MP4 conversion runs entirely in your browser.
Convert m3u8 to MP4 — what actually happens
When you click Convert to MP4, your browser reads the m3u8 playlist, downloads every video chunk it references (eight connections in parallel, with automatic retries), and repackages the chunks into a single MP4 container. No server sits in the middle: the segments travel from the stream's CDN straight into your browser's memory, and the finished MP4 is written from there to your downloads folder. It is fast because there is no queue, and lossless because the video bytes are never re-encoded — only re-containered. If you would rather start from the downloader side, the M3U8 downloader is the same engine with a download-first interface.
Convert m3u8 to MP4 in three steps
Copy the m3u8 link
On the page playing the video, open DevTools (F12) → Network → filter for m3u8, start playback, and copy the playlist URL that appears. Links with long query strings are normal — copy the whole thing.
Paste it above and click Convert to MP4
The converter parses master and media playlists alike, picks the best quality, and pulls every segment in parallel — live progress shows each chunk as it lands.
Download your MP4
At 100%, click Download MP4. You get one standards-compliant file that plays in QuickTime, Windows Media Player, phones, TVs and editors.
Why m3u8 exists — and why MP4 is its natural destination
Websites deliver video as m3u8 because the format is built for distribution: the same movie can be described at five bitrates, the player switches between them as your network changes, and every two-second chunk is a cacheable HTTP resource any CDN can serve from the edge. None of that machinery helps you, though, once you want to keep a video — an m3u8 playlist is worthless minutes after its session tokens expire.
MP4 is the opposite kind of format: one file, no dependencies, universally understood. Every phone, TV, game console, browser and video editor made in the last fifteen years opens MP4 without a fuss. Converting m3u8 to MP4 therefore isn't changing anything about the video — it is moving it from a delivery format designed for other people's servers into a possession format designed for your disk.
That is also why the conversion is instant relative to its file size: there is no transcoding stage where pixels are recomputed. The H.264 and AAC streams inside the .ts segments are copied, byte for byte, into the MP4 container. A 500-segment lecture becomes one file in about the time it takes to download it.
m3u8 to MP4: privacy by architecture
Most “free online converters” work by uploading your media to their server, converting it there, and handing it back — along with a copy that sits on a machine you know nothing about. This converter has no such step to skip, because there is no upload at all. The playlist is parsed by JavaScript on your device, the segments never leave your machine, and closing the tab erases the entire pipeline. We never see your video — not the playlist, not a thumbnail, not a single byte. Please convert only content you have the right to keep, and respect each site's terms of service.
Encrypted playlist? Convert it with the extension.
AES-128 playlists are detected before download and finished with the M3U8to Chrome extension — install it, play the video, save it as MP4.

M3U8 to MP4 FAQ
The format questions people ask before converting.
Is converting m3u8 to MP4 lossless?
Yes. The video and audio inside an HLS stream are already compressed (typically H.264 video with AAC audio). Converting m3u8 to MP4 here is a remux, not a re-encode: the segments are downloaded, stitched in order, and repackaged into an MP4 container without touching the compressed streams inside. The MP4 contains bit-identical video and audio to what the stream delivered — same resolution, same bitrate, zero quality loss.
What is the m3u8 format?
m3u8 is a plain-text playlist format used by HLS (HTTP Live Streaming). The file itself is only a few kilobytes of text: it lists the addresses of many small video chunks — usually .ts segments two to six seconds long — plus each chunk's duration and, in a master playlist, the available quality levels. Because it is UTF-8 encoded (the “8” in m3u8), any text editor can open it, but no player can watch it directly: the chunks it points to must first be fetched and joined. That is exactly what the converter above does when it turns m3u8 into MP4.
Do I need ffmpeg or VLC to convert m3u8 to mp4?
No. ffmpeg and VLC can both do it — VLC via Media → Open Network Stream, ffmpeg with a one-line command — and they are great if you already use them. This converter exists for everyone else: paste the m3u8 URL, click once, and download the finished MP4. Nothing to install, no command line to learn, and it works on any device with a browser, including phones and tablets where desktop tools are awkward.
Why does my downloaded .m3u8 file not play?
Because an m3u8 file is a playlist, not a video — it only points to the chunks. A saved .m3u8 opened in a player either shows nothing or tries to fetch chunks from URLs that have already expired. The fix is to convert the playlist to MP4 while the link is still alive: paste the m3u8 URL into the converter above, let it fetch every segment, and keep the resulting MP4 — a single self-contained file that plays anywhere, forever.
Does converting change the video quality?
Not the quality — but it can change the variant. If your link is a master playlist containing several resolutions (1080p, 720p, 480p…), the converter automatically selects the highest-quality variant, so you always get the best version the stream offers. If you paste a media playlist directly, you get exactly the quality that playlist describes — pixel for pixel.
Can I convert m3u8 to MP4 on iPhone or Android?
Yes. The whole conversion runs inside your mobile browser — there is no app to install and no desktop computer needed. On iOS, Safari can even play m3u8 links natively, but to keep the video you still need the converted MP4 file, which the converter produces and saves to your Files app like any other download.
Is the m3u8 to mp4 converter really free?
Completely — no account, no watermark, no daily quota, no “premium speed” upsell. Because the conversion happens inside your own browser rather than on our servers, it costs us almost nothing to provide, and the only real limit is your device's memory. A full movie converts fine on an ordinary laptop.
Does my video get uploaded to a server?
Never. Your browser fetches the playlist and its segments straight from the source CDN, assembles the MP4 in memory, and saves it to your disk. No video data ever touches our servers — we could not log, store, or watch your conversions even if we wanted to.
